Winter Wonders

Temporary Closure Due to Flooding
Sadly we have had to close the Discovery Experience and our exhibition space due to flooding (16 Feb 2024). We apologise for any disappointment and will refund all tickets booked. We hope to have news on when we expect to open our exhibition space soon. Thank you for your patience and support.
Our cafe and shop are open as normal.

In the depths of winter, life slows down and we shelter from darker, colder weather. But there’s still plenty going on in the natural world.

Through our new Winter Wonders exhibition, discover the secret lives of local wildlife, witness the subtle shift in seasons as waders depart and seabirds return, and appreciate the soft glow of the setting sun across the coastal landscapes. Connect with nature and ‘coorie in’ in our welcoming space created with support from Reuse Scotland where you’ll find inspiration in family-friendly activities, a warming photography exhibition, and a series of workshops where you can explore the simple pleasures of crafting, candle-making, drawing, herbalism, and wildlife watching.

We even have a cosy reading space courtesy of The Nature Library - a roving collection of books bringing stories of land, sky and sea to public spaces across Scotland.

Entry is free (with suggested donation), or included in Discovery Experience Admission and of course free to all Seabird Centre members.

Winter Wonders Wildlife Tours
Join our Conservation Officer for a wildlife wander along the coast to find out more about the wonderful wild animals that can be spotted around Scotland's shores, as part of the Winter Wonder activity taking place at the Scottish Seabird Centre.

Seashore Herbalism Workshops
Liz from The Honeybee Sanctuary will deliver herbalism workshops with a focus on Coastal plants and seaweed for health and wellbeing.

Laura Thomas Candle Making Workshop
Join us on 29 February for a very special candle making workshop with Laura Thomas. Laura will be hosting a one-off candle making workshop where she will share her expert knowledge and help you create two natural soy wax scented candles.

Rhythms of the Winter Coastline: Drawing Workshop with Chris Wallbank
Experience the winter coastline through drawing in this workshop led by landscape and wildlife artist Chris Wallbank. This three hour session will take place in our Winter Wonders space before moving outdoors to find inspiration along the harbour and shoreline overlooking the Firth of Forth, which is at its most dramatic during these winter months.
