Learn how to quickly capture the world around you in ink and watercolour.
This session is with Mark Kirkham, an ink and watercolour artist known locally as EdinburghSketcher. Mark loves to use ink and watercolours to sketch everyday life on the streets of the capital.
- Friday 22 August, 10am - 1pm
- Sunday 7 September, 11am - 2pm
On this 3 hour sketching tour, Mark will get you started using ink pens and watercolour washes drawing shells and items found on the shore before heading out to capture the stunning East Lothian views. He will share tips and techniques that he has picked up over a decade of sketching around Edinburgh.
We will touch on details, shading, depth and composition as you go from 5 minute exercises to relax the hand and work on composition, to a 30 minute detailed vista as you walk around the harbour.
You will start and finish at the Scottish Seabird Centre where you will have room to finish your watercolours and mount a favourite piece.
Mark's sketching tours are accessible for all levels from beginners to those who would like to learn more about his speed-sketching style, or to practice more relaxed mark making with ink and watercolour.
All materials are included in the price. Prepare for all weathers, this is an outdoor walking and sketching tour so please do check the forecast before you leave and dress appropriately. I will persevere if there is a little light rain but in the event of extreme weather we have space indoors where I will run the workshop using items from the beach and photographs of the area. The minimum age is 8 years old, and anyone aged 8-15 needs to be accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
