Cancel Berwick Bank Offshore Windfarm

Berwick Bank threatens to be one of the deadliest windfarms for birds anywhere in the world. That's why we joined forces with RSPB Scotland, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, the National Trust for Scotland and the Marine Conservation Society to tell SSE and the First Minister to Cancel Berwick Bank.

Offshore wind could play a big role in tackling the climate crisis and building a clean, green industry in Scotland. But it must be developed in harmony with nature. Berwick Bank offshore windfarm is set to be located near the internationally important East Lothian, Berwickshire and Fife coasts, in an area that is vital for globally important colonies of seabirds. As a result, it’s projected that this development will kill 261 Gannets, 2,808 Guillemots, 815 Kittiwakes, 66 Puffins, and 154 Razorbills in the first year alone, and tens of thousands more over its lifetime.*

In spite of this, in August the Scottish Government consented Berwick Bank in full. However, they have said that the project cannot progress without a plan to compensate for its impact. We do not consider this to be realistic or acceptable, and are therefore calling on SSE and the Scottish Government to cancel their plans and bring forward alternative, lower impact proposals instead. For more information about Berwick Bank and the impact it could have, see here.

On 16 February 2026, we welcomed representatives from RSPB Scotland, the National Trust for Scotland and local community members for an evening focused on the campaign. Speakers shared insights into the Berwick Bank windfarm proposal and plans for the future of the campaign. You can view the slides here and read the summary highlights here.

On 6 March 2026 we delivered a petition to SSE head office in Glasgow with the signatures of over 12,500 people who like us are calling for this damaging development to be cancelled. The level of support for that campaign highlights the growing public concern around the impact of this project. You can view our video from the day here, or scroll down to the bottom of this page to watch it.

We will continue to lobby for change, and here are some things you can do to support our cause.
