East Lothian – the very best of Scotland
With over 40 miles of magnificent coastline, golden beaches, rolling countryside, spectacular cliffs, award-winning tourist attractions and the world’s finest selection of links golf courses, East Lothian combines the very best of Scotland! It feels a million miles away, yet it’s only minutes from Edinburgh by car, train or bus! North Berwick has an excellent range of accommodation, restaurants and things to do and all so close to the cosmopolitan city centre of Edinburgh.
From the excitement of Musselburgh Racecourse to the awesome sight of Concorde, in all her glory; to the impressive clifftop fortress of Tantallon Castle, you’ll be spoiled for choice. There really is something for everyone!
Birthplace of John Muir, the father of modern conservation, the area is home to a rich variety of wildlife and thousands of seabirds arriving each year to nest on its islands and coastline. The Scottish Seabird Centre and John Muir's Birthplace will be staging an exciting festival in 2009 to celebrate the legacy of John Muir in a series of lectures, exhibitions, boat trips, beach and birdwatching walks and countryside safaris through East Lothian's John Muir Country Parks.
