It feels a million miles away, yet it’s only minutes from Edinburgh by car, train or bus! North Berwick has an excellent range of accommodation, restaurants and things to do and all so close to the cosmopolitan city centre of Edinburgh.

From the excitement of Musselburgh Racecourse and the awesome sight of Concorde to the impressive clifftop fortress of Tantallon Castle, you’ll be spoiled for choice. And just a few hundred yards away is the lovely Pitclay Gallery overlooking the Bass Rock, definitely worth a visit.

Birthplace of John Muir, the father of modern conservation, the area is home to a rich variety of wildlife and thousands of seabirds arriving each year to nest on its islands and coastline.

Charming towns and villages invite you to browse in art galleries, museums and gift shops. The famous Brunton Theatre attracts some of the best theatre, dance and entertainment around and, not to be forgotten, East Lothian is the ancient home of golf.

Known as the garden of Scotland, you can savour delicious fresh local produce, as well as seafood specialities in East Lothian’s delicatessens, restaurants and cafes. Look out for the farmers’ markets in Haddington where you can try some of the best food and drink to be found in East Lothian and don’t forget to sample Scotland’s national drink at the five star Glenkinchie Distillery.

Close to Edinburgh

North Berwick is only half an hour from Scotland's capital city with a regular direct train service.
