The Scottish Seabird Centre has today published a new report warning that Scotland’s seabirds are under increasing pressure and calling for an end to licensing of the guga hunt on Sula Sgeir. This follows news this week that a new application for a license has been made for 2026.

The Scottish Seabird Centre, with support from the Scottish Marine Environmental Enhancement Fund (SMEEF) using funds made available by the Scottish Government's Nature Restoration Fund, have today switched on a new, cutting-edge 360-degree camera network on Bass Rock, offering an immersive, high-definition view of one of the UK’s most iconic seabird colonies.

Marine conservation and education charity the Scottish Seabird Centre has this week called for the Scottish Government to take action to address concerns over seabird bycatch. This is when seabirds are killed after being unintentionally caught on hooks or entangled in fishing lines and nets.
