Closer2nature is an exciting schools outreach programme delivered directly to your door!
Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh and the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick work in partnership to bring you this exciting and innovative educational outreach opportunity for schools across Scotland.
The Closer2nature Outreach programme is supported by the Scottish Government and combines the unique interactive educational activities offered by both science centres. We offer multi-sensory workshops which bring the curriculum to life, and provide memorable educational experiences that will inspire pupils’ imaginations and stimulate their curiosity to understand more about Scotland’s amazing natural heritage. Our cross-curricular workshops focus on themes including climate change, sustainability, landscape evolution and marine wildlife.
The highly interactive and multi-sensory workshops include a wonderful range of handling specimens from gannets and puffins to mammoth bones and dinosaur claws, authentic bird smells, amazing volcano and glacier demonstrations (designed to be teacher and classroom friendly!) and stunning audio-visual aids.
Our Schools Communicator will encourage children to think critically and aspire to engage their inquisitive nature, so an outreach visit also emphasises questioning, discussion and debate during the workshops. Workshops are intrinsically linked to the 5-14 National Guidelines for Environmental Studies, and their length can vary between 50 minutes to 1 and ½ hours depending on your requirements. Visit Closer2Nature for information on our workshops.
