A Day Out to Remember

The area is home to an amazing variety of seabirds including the famous gannets on the Bass Rock, described by Sir David Attenborough as “one of the wildlife wonders of the world”. There are kittiwakes, guillemots, shags, terns and eiders and - always a favourite - the puffins – and you’ll find some of the biggest puffin colonies in Scotland on the islands close to the Seabird Centre.

In the Centre’s Discovery Centre, you can get really close to the animals with incredible super zoom remote control live cameras – so close you can actually read the rings on their feet. There is a large grey seal colony in the area and an amazing winter spectacle, the fluffy white newborn seal pups in winter. With a big increase in the number of sightings of dolphins, porpoises and whales in the area, you may be lucky.

You can also enjoy an exciting Seabird Seafari boat trip on our new RIBs. Visit our Boat Trips page for more information.
