Marine Fest 2022

Part 1 - June 4 - June 8

We're thrilled to be returning with our popular Marine Fest for a second year.

This year's programme has been designed to help visitors and locals alike to get involved in protecting Scotland’s marine environment and address the impacts of climate change.

With activities suitable for all ages and pockets, you will be able to enjoy internationally acclaimed exhibits, the launch of East Lothian's first citizen science trail, wellbeing events, new and coastal speed sketching, ethical dining, wine tasting, boat trips, pioneering community led projects, rockpool rambles, science busking and lots more family fun.

SCOTTISH COASTAL CLEAN-UP

Borrow one of our beach clean kits between 5 and 8 June and do your bit for the Scottish Coastal Cleanup!

We're delighted to be taking part in the Scottish Coastal Clean Up that's taking place this year from Berwick upon Tweed to Aberdeen. Lil (Lower Impact Living) is coordinating the stretch from Berwick to Edinburgh, with support from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, with Caledonian Horticulture coordinating Edinburgh to Aberdeen.  Feel free to join wherever you are!

MAKE MESS MATTER

Sea slime, nautical nonsense and ocean potions! Get stuck in, have fun and make some marine-themed mess with the MMM team. All materials provided. Suitable for under 5s. Beware, you may get messy.

Tuesday 7 June

FIND OUT ABOUT… RESTORATION FORTH

Drop in to find out about Restoration Forth, a pioneering community-inspired conservation project to restore seagrass and oyster habitats in the Firth of Forth.

  • This is a drop-in activity in the Seabird Centre Welcome Walkway - all welcome.

SEA CHANGE WINE TASTING & OPTIONAL BEACH CLEAN

Sea Change are passionate about two things: protecting our oceans and great tasting wine. Every bottle of Sea Change helps fund ocean conservation projects across the globe and minimal packaging reduces waste and environmental impact. Enjoy samples and discuss tasting notes from the range which is available to purchase at the Scottish Seabird Centre. Sea Change will hold a beach clean event starting from the Centre ahead of the wine tasting event from 530pm - 615pm to which all are welcome.

Wednesday 8 June

UNDER 5s STORYTELLING

Be transported to the underwater worlds of a few of our favourite sea-themed short stories. This event is suitable for pre-school chidlren with an accompanying adult (over 18).

COASTAL WILDLIFE TOUR

Join our Conservation Officer for a relaxing 1.5 hour wildlife tour along the North Berwick coast to celebrate World Oceans Day! We are delighted that, thanks to the incredible work of the team at Beach Wheelchairs, all of our coastal wildlife sessions are now accessible for wheelchair users (subject to availability).

MEET THE SCIENTIST: MARINE RESCUE

Chelsea Knight is the assistant coordinator for the British Divers Marine Life Rescue for Edinburgh, Lothians and the Borders. BDMLR are a UK wide non-profit charity dedicated to rescuing injured and stranded dolphins, whales, seals and porpoise. Learn about the different marine mammals found in the Forth and how to appreciate them responsibly as well as the highs and lows of rescues past and present. Chelsea will also cover how you can get involved and become a marine mammal medic yourself.
