Education Programme

The aim of the Scottish Seabird Centre’s education programme is to inspire and engage people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to appreciate, learn about and care for Scotland’s wildlife and natural environment. As an independent charity, we are committed to lifelong learning and provide a diverse range of formal and informal educational programmes.

The Discovery Centre, Environment Zone and Migration Flyway offer a fantastic award-winning unique resource for learning about Scotland’s natural  heritage. The Scottish Seabird Centre is a unique environment in which to explore current scientific and social issues including several Eco-Schools topics. The workshops of the Scottish Seabird Centre’s education programme are ideally placed to provide a range of real-world experiences for pupils supporting many of the outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence in a holistic cross curricular fashion. We focus on participatory, experiential learning in a way that is accessible and appropriate for all ages and abilities. Our workshops are designed to enthuse teachers and their pupils in science and are delivered in a fresh, lively style providing children with the opportunity to acquire skills and information required towards living a more sustainable life.

The series of ‘Outcome Maps’, which can be found on the website, suggest how experiences and outcomes within Curriculum for Excellence may be worked towards and/or delivered through experiences arising from participation in the Scottish Seabird Centre’s Education Programme.
